Trivia/Info
- A cover of the 1967 song by The Rose Garden with lyrics by Kenny O'Dell, which appeared on the group's self-titled album in 1968.
- First made available through fan recordings of Dial-A-Song, this cover was officially released to members of the 2024 Instant Fan Club, transferred from a 1985 cassette sent to the Johns' high-school friend James McIntyre.
- John Flansburgh explained the cover's recording on Tumblr in 2024:
I believe the "clap" and "kick" sounds were just things I dialed in and played by hand on JL's [Micromoog]. The kick might have even just been a thumb on the top of a Shure 57 microphone which for a period we found to be the best sounding kick emulation we could muster (surprisingly thumpy).
- Also present on the recording are drum sounds from the Boss DR-110 Dr. Rhythm, the band's earliest drum machine[1].
- This cover uses a repeated sample of an unidentified person saying "Buh-buh-baby!" during the instrumental break. Flansburgh said of the sample: "It is a real life person (not from a recording), but I don’t know who."[2]
