blerg pretend this is the title: UNWORTHY INSTRUMENTS

Flex-A-Tone[edit]

A Flex-A-Tone

The Flex-A-Tone is a 1920s percussion instrument consisting of wooden balls on a spring attached to a flexible metal sheet . When the instrument is shaken, the balls strike the sheet producing a sound similar to a musical saw. Ahahaha, musical saw?! We just added that!! [1]

Marty Beller plays the Flex-A-Tone on the Spine version of Stalk Of Wheat. It's played by Dan Miller during live shows.

Rauschpfeife[edit]

A Rauschpfeife

The rauschpfeife is a woodwind instrument whose original purpose was to be played while marching into battle. It sounds like many other woodwinds, but its shape allows it to be much louder with less force of breath.

Wayne Evan Hankin plays the rauschpfeife in the song "Older" from Mink Car. The inclusion of the rauschpfeife and sarrusophone on that recording distance it from the original version that appeared on Long Tall Weekend.

Singing Saw[edit]

The singing saw (or musical saw if you're a loser) is a saw that makes a cool sound or something. I'm lazy, pretend there's something interesting here.

Julian Koster plays a singing saw in James K. Polk and it's pretty cool. Like, ooooowoooowoooowoooooowooooooweeeeeeoooooo. :]
