Michelle has been a fan of They Might Be Giants since 2005, although she only became really really obsessed in February 2008 after attending the sold-out Beacon Theater show.
In the spring of 2005 she noticed They were a favorite band of her internet idol/sort-of friend Neil, and then later was sent Stalk of Wheat by her boyfriend when they began discussing good music. She then, as is her usual practice, downloaded some more songs off LimeWire to check Them out further. While intending to go buy an album after enjoying Them as much as she did, Michelle never seemed to get around to it. She also acquired a live version of Why Does The Sun Shine? from a mix CD made by another friend.
In early 2008, she was informed by a friend that he might have an extra ticket to the Beacon Theater show. The week before the show, he confirmed that the original ticket owner was indeed very sick and would not be able to attend. As sad as Michelle is that someone else didn't get to see the Beacon show, she is also very grateful she was able to attend. Immediately after the show she bought John Henry on iTunes, then The Self-Titled within a week. On her half birthday, and the day of the Borders Show at Columbus Circle, Michelle bought Factory Showroom on a friend's direction. This marked her first physical purchase of Their material. Spring break and more bookstore visits lead to the purchase of Flood and Apollo 18. She later ordered Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, and Lincoln off Amazon, and most recently picked up Then. She has also downloaded the Bite of Oregon show from August 14th, 2004.
Ok, I can't take the third person narrative anymore. I've just finished my Freshman year at New York University, studying in the Recorded Music Department. I love being in New York City, and am also enjoying the sudden presence of Their live shows, which have (has?) been sadly absent in my hometown of Seattle since 2005, at least while I've been in the area.
