Trivia/Info

  • Unlike the final album recording, this demo ends after the "I just want your half" phrase is spoken. This line is also spoken by John Linnell instead of Lisa Klapp, who delivers the line on the album recording. The idea for Klapp to deliver the line for the song was John Flansburgh's according to Linnell[1], with Flansburgh stating in 2023: "It [was] a way to kind of animate the words written on the bridge."[2]
  • This demo also contains various lyrical differences compared to the final album recording. Major differences include:
    • "Make a hole with a pistol at point-blank range" instead of "Make a hole with a gun perpendicular".
    • "That's where she is and I can just picture it" instead of "Showing the home of the one this was written for".
    • "Every phone in town was listening" instead of "To the horn on the pole at the bus depot".
  • It is unknown when this demo first appeared on Dial-A-Song service, although a song list from 1987 roughly dates the year "Ana Ng" was first conceptualized.
