- The titular Julie is Julie Kantner, who was the bassist and occasional vocalist of The Turtlenecks.
- In an interview, Kantner stated that for this song, Flansburgh tuned all the strings of his guitar to D. He asked her to perform percussion for the song by waving her hand under a running faucet.
