"The Kendal Mintcake" is the remix alias of Thom Soriano, bassist for the NYC band Nova Social. In 2003, he remixed S-E-X-X-Y, which was released on theymightbegiants.com. He has also remixed tracks by Canadian popster Dan Bryk and UK dancehall artist DJ Slurry. At one point Nova Social shared members with You Were Spiraling and performed "a little" with Brian Dewan, which is part of how the band came into contact with the Johns.[1]

In response to a fan on Bluesky, he had this to say on the process of getting the remix into Flansburgh's hands:

I made that [remix] for fun and dropped a cd on john f after a panel at the future of music conference, he was kind enough to put it up as a dl of the week on the website. nice times![2] [...] but that really just came about bc i was so enthralled with the a cappella on the 12” lol[3]
