John F. here. We are going BACK ON THE ROAD, and we have added some additional dates!

When we’re putting together these emails, we always try to include a description of the current live show. It’s hard to explain briefly where the band is at now in terms of performance because there’s so many different things going on. So forgive me while I dig in a little bit...
The shows on the BIG TOUR are two sets and include a different album spotlight set each night, along with a set of favorites and deep cuts.

Consistent with its name, it’s a big show and a big band. We’ve got eight of us on stage and there are a lot of spotlight moments to let the folks in the band shine. The horns have become a wonderfully integral part of the proceedings and amplify what we are doing in so many ways. We also have a pretty vast repertoire in our back pockets to keep things interesting from night to night. At last count, it was 80 songs –– so not only do we spotlight a different album each night of any stand, we also change up the second set with different songs. And we always find time to play the big favorites (we aren’t making any contrarian moves in that department!) as well as personal favorites of ours that might be lesser known. We play songs from our first album through BOOK, and there are some very new additions in the mix including our TikTok breakthrough Stuff is Way.

Now, you might think all this extra effort to refresh the show affects us more than any given audience coming one night, but there really is a big payoff for everybody. There is a first night excitement every night even on the second or third night we’re in town. Not only does it keep things different (and keep us on our toes musically), it also gives us something new to talk about. Right now we have John Henry, Mink Car, and Apollo 18 in heavy rotation as the spotlight albums in the first set and, in the fall, I think we’ll be trying to fold in other albums (I’m thinking Lincoln would be solid, and perhaps we'll surprise folks with a blast of Flood again—lord knows we have that under our fingers). I would say watch this space, but we don’t announce the spotlight albums ahead of time. So come out to the show and expect some form of the unexpected, or maybe even to a second show and get something quite different from the first!

They Might Be Giants - Gab On (Theme to the Slate Political Gabfest)

We have recorded the theme to Slate’s Political Gabfest. If you want to hear some thoughtful discourse about the current national tribulations or just a glorious theme, follow on your favorite pod catcher.
Here we are with the Political Gabfest crew doing a show in Boston.
