Number Three on The Joe Franklin Show[edit]

OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! I really wanna see this, but I don't live anywhere near NY and therefore I don't have an NYPL library card. Is there an alternate link to this vid? If there is, could you provide the link on my talk page? Thank you, -T-boi 11:41, 10 February 2021‎

Joe runs a free-wheeling, almost incoherent show. The guests aren't introduced at first, and then are re-introduced too often later on. Joe asks Noel Harrison stupid questions about his new singing career, when Joe obviously wants to talk about his dad (Rex), and Noel is only interested in pushing a gig at the Irish Pavilion that weekend.

Then he gets to the rock group he calls They Must Be Giants, who shouldn't be confused with They Might Be Giants, as Joe often did. They were pushing their new album, titled "They Might Be Giants" which he held up only 19 times.

They Might Be Giants were doing a live number on Joe's show for the first time. They had been discovered by Joe earlier in September, when he played their record "Put Your Hands Inside the Puppet Head."

And now they were doing their hit song "Number Three." It begins "There are only two songs in me / And I just wrote the third." It was a hilarious piece of TV featuring group members John Flansburgh and John Linnell in green-gold fezzes.

I think we should keep/create show pages for TV studio concerts such as the 2003 TechTV appearance(s) as that was basically kind of a mini-concert broadcast on TV. As for short appearances on stuff like late night shows, I had started to add those because Duke33, an admin, created one for the Larry Sanders appearance (Shows/1996-09-20). Sorry, been a bit busy and haven't had much time to think on this. What is your criteria for determining whether a TV appearance is worthy of a Shows page - the amount of songs played? I'm inclined to think we shouldn't really distinguish between a 1-song TV appearance and a 4-song one (for example), as it's still happening in a studio, and not really a live/tour date. Hi Jon! So I've been tinkering with show pages and had a quick question for you. (There was no show page for the later show yet, but I subsequently created one.) Now I'm second-guessing myself: I believe someone had marked themselves as attending the 1998-10-02 (now 1998-10-02b) show, but that information may have been lost with the rename. Also I see a bunch of other 1998 dates (08-28, 08-30, 09-11, 10-16, 12-30) where an earlier "a" show has been added but the later show doesn't have a "b" after it. What's the best way of handling this sort of thing? --Octoflange (talk) 11:25, 26 March 2023 (EDT)

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. After talking with antgeth I think the precedent is to always designate a and b if there are two shows on one date - meaning right now there are many instances that could be cleaned up/moved. It's one of those projects that won't necessarily improve anything except instill consistency. The big downside is that only Duke33 has the ability to move show attendance records, and he's been busy for a while now, so that information could be in limbo indefinitely if we move a bunch of show pages. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 14:59, 6 April 2023 (EDT)

As for lost attendance info, I guess there are two use-cases to deal with: 1) when a preexisting show page gets moved, and 2) when a show doesn't have a page yet but someone logged their attendance on the show listings for that year, and then the listing gets renamed. (The latter is what happened with 1998-10-02b before I created the show page -- I believe there was an attendee listed for that show on the 1998 page.)
