Trivia/Info
This [song] was written twelve years ago in the studio while we were recording our Flood LP. Nobody makes LPs anymore, but "Hovering Sombrero" still remains fresh to us, after being defrosted in the microwave and served on a bed of the Band of Dans.
- John Flansburgh would explain the reasoning behind the song's shelf life in 2025[2]: "I guess 'Hovering Sombrero', as a slower quieter song, was harder to fit into an album sequence."
- First released in the February 2001 edition of TMBG Unlimited, it was initially recorded in 1999 during sessions for a "new rock album" with Joe Nicolo of the Butcher Brothers[3]. This recording would appear on a Music From Malcolm In The Middle promo release in 2001, and features the second verse sung entirely in Spanish.
- A QuickCam video featuring the original demo for this song is included as a .mov (Quicktime) file on the Direct From Brooklyn DVD, accessible by DVD-ROM drives.
