Paul Angelli
Paul Angelli is a Massachusetts-based sound engineer who has worked extensively with They Might Be Giants. In addition to being the live sound man for TMBG's concerts in the 90s, Angelli also helped to mix, master, and record several albums for the band.
Angelli got his start out of college with Sterling Sound, working as Ted Jensen's primary assistant.[2] He recorded often at Skyline Studios in New York.[3] It was here that he first started working with the band and first came into contact with producer Pat Dillett. Pat recounted in a 1999 Info Club Newsletter his initial experience.
I remember being really jealous of Paul because I was working on Mariah Carey's record and he got to work on your record. We were tracking her record, and I was like, the big time engineer on it, and everyone was telling me I'd really hit the jackpot and was thinking "Why can't I just go assist on the Giants' record?" (laughs) At that stage, both Paul and I were really happy because around the time you started working there it was the culmination of working on a lot of cool projects in a row. There was a Clapton record in there, the Replacements did a record there - a whole bunch of people we actually liked - listened to, bought records by, went to shows of - it wasn't just like... Mariah (laughs). It was a cool time.
Angelli is credited on TMBG's Flood and Apollo 18, alongside John Linnell's State Songs and possibly much more uncredited work with the band. In addition to his work with They Might Be Giants he has also worked with Arto Lindsay, Laura Cantrell, and Laurie Anderson.[4] Angelli left Sterling Sound after a decade of work, and now currently works at Bose. For a time he also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.[5]
