- This song was first mentioned by John Flansburgh in the August 13, 2002 mailing list letter as one of the songs he and John Linnell played at their first ever public performance in Central Park on July 18, 1982. After the release of this letter, "Penguine" would not be heard by They Might Be Giants fans until a recording of the song was included in Podcast 43 in 2011, where it had been transferred from an early Dial-A-Song cassette circa. 1983[1].
- Before this song's official release, it was caught airing on Dial-A-Song in 1989[2], six years after its initial introduction to the service[3].
- When referencing the lyrics to the song in the 2002 mailing list letter, Flansburgh mistyped the lyrics as: "Penguin, penguin, all alone and lost, standing, sitting, looks for a place to park."
