They Might Be Giants
— with David Garland, The Tryfles co-headlining —
8BC in New York, NY
April 6, 1985 at 12:00 AM
Fan Recaps and Comments:
This show was advertised as a "Post-Flexi Reception", following the release party for the Wiggle Diskette at Darinka on March 30, 1985.
Among the other acts on the bill was David Garland, who, as host of WNYC's Spinning On Air, later interviewed John Linnell in 1999 and They Might Be Giants in 2003. Garland briefly spoke about this show in a 2025 interview:
I performed at 8BC, which was a weird experience. The whole first floor had been removed. [The audience would] go into the dirt basement and look up at the stage. But also, 8th Street between B and C at that time... There were ruins on all sides [of the venue], and you'd see a cigarette ember somewhere deep in the ruins and wonder what the hell was going on. It was a spooky area. One time when I played at 8BC, it was with They Might Be Giants. I was friendly with those guys, but I didn't know them well. I felt like what they were doing was not a million miles from what I was doing.
